Recent dietary research has uncovered 14 different nutrient-dense foods that time and again promote good overall health. Coined “superfoods,” they tend to have fewer calories, higher levels of vitamins and minerals, and many disease-fighting antioxidants.

Beans (legumes), berries (especially blueberries), broccoli, green tea, nuts (especially walnuts), oranges, pumpkin, salmon. soy, spinach, tomatoes, turkey, whole grains and oats, and yogurt can all help stop and even reverse diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and some forms of cancer. And where one might have an effect on a certain part of the body, it can also affect the health of other body functions and performance, since the whole body is connected. With these 14 foods as the base of a balanced, solid diet, weight loss gimmicks and other fly-by-night programs can become a thing of the past in your life.

Conversely, the ill-effects of an unbalanced diet are several and varied. Low energy levels, mood swings, tired all the time, weight change, uncomfortable with body are just a few signs that your diet is unbalanced. An unbalanced diet can cause problems with maintenance of body tissues, growth and development, brain and nervous system function, as well as problems with bone and muscle systems.

Symptoms of malnutrition include lack of energy, irritability, a weakened immune system leading to frequent colds or allergies, and mineral depletion that can trigger a variety of health concerns including anemia.

And since the body is connected, realizing that an unhealthy body will result in an unhealthy spirit only makes sense. When we nourish our body with these superfoods and complement them with other nutrient-dense and healthy fresh foods, our spirit will be vitalized and healthy as a direct result.

Many modern diets based on prepackaged convenience foods are sorely lacking in many vitamins and minerals, which can affect our mental capacities as well, and cause irritability, confusion, and the feeling of ‘being in a fog’ all the time.

Superfoods can be the basis of a sound, healthy, nutritious solution to curing many of these ailments and more.

We are back after some inactivity time, now a short advice to fight the cigars’ Public Enemy #1, “Beetles”. Please read carefully because I am quite sure you don’t want your expensive cigars to end up like the ones on the picture.

Your cigar box may be at risk of a secret predator. Many cigar aficionados have been shocked and repulsed at finding their treasured cigars infested with Lasioderma Serricorne, also known as tobacco beetles. This dreaded beetle feeds on your precious cigars. They don’t care if your cigars are drugstore mass-market brands, or imported beauties.

What is the tobacco beetle, and where does it come from? The tobacco beetle exits in all countries where tobacco is produced. It thrives on tobacco plants, infesting their leaves before it is processed. Tobacco beetles thrive in hot climates, and especially in the warm countries Caribbean countries where much of the world’s tobacco is produced. Tobacco beetles lay larvae that are white and up to 4 mm long. When the larvae hatch, they produce moths that proceed to hungrily eat their way through the tobacco leaves. Unfortunately, the tobacco beetle has been known to survive the process of fermentation and production that is used to make most cigars. Although many countries have made the effort to rid their tobacco crops of this dreaded pest, mostly by spraying crops with gases, the tobacco beetle has proven highly resistant.

If the tobacco beetle survives into the finished product, many cigar enthusiasts may open their cigar boxes to find that their cigars have been eaten through. Sometimes the presence of the tobacco beetle can be detected through the presence of small puncture-like holes on the wrapper. The holes can make an average cigar resemble a flute.
What can you do if you find your cigars infested with the tobacco beetle? Research has shown that your microwave may be your best defense in destroying the tobacco beetle larvae. Before using your microwave, remove and dispose of any infested cigar from your collection. The rest of your cigars can be treated. In order to rid the remaining of your collection of this pest, you should make sure to microwave your cigars together, never individually. Microwave them for about three minutes. After being warmed, immediately place the cigars into the freezer. After freezing them for 24 hours, remove them and allow them to thaw at room temperature. After they have thawed completely, place them in a humidor. This treatment has proven effective in removing the presence of the tobacco beetle. Before removing a cigar from the humidor to be smoked, examine each cigar individually. If the cigar shows no evidence of infestation, it is safe to smoke.

How Much Money Can I Make With Google Adsense?

How much do you want to make? How hard do you want to work? And how much time do you want to spend working the Google Adsense program?

These are the questions you must ask yourself in order to answer that question.

Look at it this way: how many business opportunities come your way where the only requirement is hard work and the time it takes to work hard? Not many. Almost any business venture requires some kind of start-up money.

If your total earnings is showing 0.00 after a week, not to worry. Keep reading and learning and working. If however, you´re still showing 0.00 after a month, it may be time to implement some of those optimization tips you will find on the Google Adsense Support Site. Play around with the placement of the ads on your site. Consider changing the colors. Look again at the content. Is it interesting?

As with any other business, with the Google Adsense program, the sky is the limit. Work hard. Work smart. Have fun. After all, you are the boss.

What Are URL Channels and How to Organize Them in Google Adsense

URL Channels allow you to view detailed information about the performance of your Adsense for Content pages.

Suppose you have a blog at writingup.com and you also have a blog at bloggerparty.com. It might be interesting and profitable to track which one is getting more clicks. Log in to your Adsense account and click on Adsense for Content. Scroll down until you see Channels and click on manage channels. You may need to scroll up when the next page loads. Under Manage URL Channels you would type writingup.com and click on Create New Channel. You will immediately see writingup.com in the Active URL Channels dialogue box. Now type in bloggerparty.com in the same channel text box and again click on Create New Channel. You now have two channels and you will be able to track your progress on each channel. You can view channel reports from the Advanced Report page under the Reports tab. Choose Adsense for Content, choose the date range and then select the Channels Data radio button. Choose any number of active channels by holding down the CTRL key. Next click on Display Report. It is as easy as that.

When a person can regulate their sources of spirituality, it brings them great pleasure. Since we all are different in nature, spirituality differs for most of us as well. The goal behind finding your spirituality is incurring a need to reach beyond to connect with your spiritual side. Whatever you find should make you feel good about you. What you find should be utilized in your journey to spirituality, helping you to develop and grow in your individuality.

We all know that prayers are powerful tools that affect attitudes. Prayers are often said on oneís behalf, or for people we know. According to few philosophers who study spirituality, each day we pray we should work in accord with that prayer. Meditation is a form of getting in touch with you, which is similar to prayer. When you pray you often, feel calm. You will feel a soothing touch graze over you. Like prayer, meditation brings us closer to who we are. You can improve your life through prayer and mediation.

How do I meditate? First, keep in mind that mediation is a tool that coordinates our senses, thoughts, body, and so on. The notion is to help us relax. As we relax and attempt to meditate, we gain control over our minds, thoughts and so forth. We learn to focus on our goals. We get a sense of spirituality through meditation. The notion helps us to feel energy. Once our energy is lifted, which helps us to deal with life and people more calmly. You will need to follow basics steps to learn how you can focus on what you intend to accomplish from meditation. When you start to meditate, you must realize that at first it will be difficult. At least for most: Meditation is the process or removing all thoughts from your mind for a short time and then allowing the mind to focus. Sometimes your mind my wander or ramble on, which you should allow. Once the thoughts feel a sense of relief, then you can move to meditate.

How to begin: As you begin to meditate, start by finding a snug position. You want the body to sit upright in your relaxed spot. Your back should be upright and aligned. Once you are relaxed, use the hands to bear your body weight. Now take a deep breath and breathe in the air, inhaling it into your lungs. Now hold and release. Relax again continuing your position. When you learn to focus on your breathing and how to take deep breathes, it helps you to remove unwarranted stress.

When you learn to meditate, it helps you to find peace within, since your thoughts will gradually quiet. Meditation helps you to clear up clutter. Once you feel that sense of serenity, you will have affirmed your mind. This helps you to pay hold firm to what you intend to accomplish.
One must practice daily to meditate. Practice helps a person gain control over their thoughts. As you continue your journey through meditation, you may find areas of disturbance. In some instances, your mind may wander backwards to memories you do not like. Allow room to accept your discomforts and the thoughts to freely come forward. Remember, you lived it once, how can it harm you again? While you meditate you, do not want to force any actions or thoughts on your mind and body. Allow room for freedom. Once you completed your meditation, say a little prayer for those people suffering in the world. This will make room for added comfort.

Many organisations, like the one mention on this article, Amnesty International, are worried about what’s happening on the island. It is time to take actions, such situations haven`t been allowed in many other countries, while in Cuba are. Is time for the UN to do something, is not enough, and we all know this, to ask explanations or attend to cuban`s governament vows, is now 50 years we are listening to this, is time to move on.

Here is the original article posted @ http://www.caribbeannetnews.com

Amnesty International says Cuba needs reform

Published on Thursday, March 18, 2010

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters) — Amnesty International said Cuba “desperately” needs political and legal reform and called for the communist country to release all political prisoners.

The London-based rights group criticized the Cuban government for putting its opponents behind bars for years for “the peaceful exercise of their rights.”

“Cuba desperately needs political and legal reform to bring the country in line with basic international human rights standards,” said Kerrie Howard, the organization’s deputy director for the Americas, in a statement.

“Cuban laws impose unacceptable limits on the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly,” she said.

Amnesty International issued its statement to mark the 7th anniversary of the so-called “Black Spring,” a March 18, 2003 crackdown in which 75 Cuban dissidents were jailed.

Cuba’s “Ladies in White,” wives and mothers of the prisoners, were shouted down and harassed by government supporters on Tuesday as they marched through Havana in a protest ahead of the Thursday anniversary.

The Cuban government has been criticized internationally following the February 23 death of prisoner Orlando Zapata after an 85-day hunger strike protest over prison conditions.

It is also under fire for its handling of a second hunger striker, dissident Guillermo Farinas, who stopped eating and drinking three weeks ago and is in a hospital after collapsing last week.

Farinas wants Havana to release 26 ailing political prisoners, but the government has said it will not be “blackmailed” by him.

“The long imprisonment of individuals solely for the peaceful exercise of their rights is not only a tragedy in itself but also constitutes a stumbling block to other reforms,” said Howard.

She said it was an obstacle to dialogue needed with the United States to be able to obtain the lifting of the longstanding US trade embargo against Cuba.

Amnesty International urged Cuban President Raul Castro to allow monitoring of the country’s human rights situation by the United Nations and other rights groups.

Cuba has vowed to resist international pressure over human rights.

Cuban Government has vowed and promised many thing along the years, the question is, how many men need to die before the international community start to move a finger??????

Apart from dreaming and frequent movements during the night, snoring is one of the activities that human body creates even when in deep sleep. It is a dysfunction in the body that is caused by certain mechanisms that seem to collide when the body is at its most relaxed state.

The muscles in the throat may partially close the air passage when they have become too relaxed. This obstruction coupled with the drive of wind that runs through this passage will result to vibrations we commonly know as snores.

Natural remedies for snoring are effective means of finding solutions. However, it must be considered that not all remedies can be very effective for all sorts of snoring causes. Thus, careful evaluation must be done before any assumption is made.

Weight loss and exercise issues

The general population is advised to maintain an ideal weight and body size. This is not simply to restrict us from enjoying the habits that we got so used to. But because this measure can greatly improve our health. One of the many benefits of maintaining an ideal weight is that it makes you less susceptible to risks involved in snoring.

Heavier individuals have heavier body mass. Thus, they have bulkier necks that contain excess muscles often causing obstructions during breathing. The throat can no longer accommodate extra tissues that may cause the blockages for the facilitation of normal breathing.

Improve your general lifestyle

Smokers and frequent drinkers are often more vulnerable to producing snores since the substances that they take encourage various body reactions that are well-suited for snoring.

Cigarettes can possibly modify the tissues of the respiratory tract in a way that the system is stripped off its protection from the harm of the chemicals found in cigars, tobaccos and cigarettes. Some studies say that the esophagus is lined with a specific type of cell that changes into another form once smoke from cigarettes pass through it. This will then induce the abnormal production of mucus that can add up to the obstructions.

Alcohol, on the other hand, can bring about relaxation on the muscles that further aggravate the condition. The muscles of the throat during sleep relax due to lack of control. This then creates the possibility that the muscles will interfere with the normal flow of air in and out of the lungs. Thus, the vibration that results to snores.

Change of sleep posture

The earliest method of reducing snores is by stitching a tennis ball on the pajama tops. This encourages the snorer to sleep on his side even when unconscious since the tennis ball is enough to remind him that sleeping on his back wont do any good. Realigning your body will help decrease the possibility of snoring since the tongue and the jaw will be kept from dropping back that cause blockages on the narrow air passage.

Most people advise of sleeping in a sideward posture to prevent the relaxed muscles to collapse. For snorers who can tolerate sleeping on their stomachs are much less susceptible to the likelihood of snoring since this posture is ideal for reducing the pressure on the airways.

Also, it is often advised that the your bed is elevated to 30 degrees since this height is known to lessen collapse of the tissues in the throat.

One doesn’t normally associate beautiful jewelry with the time of the Spanish Inquisition. But in the Smithsonian Institution’s collection of gems, there is an exquisite necklace of diamonds and emeralds.

It is a spectacular double row of diamonds and emeralds ending in a chandelier of emeralds. There is unfortunately very little information about the provenance of this necklace. The large diamonds and Columbian emeralds were most likely cut in India in the 17th century. This would make them one of the earliest examples of cut gemstones in the Smithsonian’s Collection. There are really only legends surrounding this necklace. They indicate that it was worn at times by Spanish and French royalty. In the early 20th century, it was purchased by the Maharajah of Indore, whose son sold the necklace in 1947 to Harry Winston. Winston subsequently sold the necklace to Mrs. Cora Hubbard Williams of Pittsburgh. She bequeathed it to the Smithsonian in 1972.

Emeralds are a form of crystal known as beryls. Beryls are normally clear crystals, but when infused with chromium or vanadium, they attain various gradations of green. The purest green are the rarest emeralds and many people actually prefer an emerald that has a blue-green tint.

Before the 16th century, the only known emerald deposits were in Cleopatra’s Egyptian mines. But after emeralds were discovered in Columbia, those became the “gold standard” in emeralds. Columbian emeralds have been discovered by archaeologists among artifacts of such tribes as the Inca, Maya, Aztec, Toltec and the lesser-known Chibcha Indians. Emeralds are among the rarest of gemstones and can be more expensive per carat than even the finest diamonds! They are a hard mineral, with a Moh’s hardness scale of 7 or 8 (compared to a diamond’s 10). While most emeralds are found in Africa, Russia and Africa, there have been discoveries of emerald deposits in North Carolina!

Anyone who knows me well knows that I like cheap and free things to do with the family. It isn’t that I’m not willing to pay good money for good fun, I just happen to believe that the best fun is sometimes as free as the wind. The same holds true when visiting new cities like San Francisco. I will invest a great amount of time looking for activities that me and other members of my family can enjoy for little or no money. This saves money for other things like good food and souvenirs.

I’m also a big fan of David Letterman and in that spirit I decided to devise a top five list of my very own in honor of Mr. Letterman’s Top 10 list. My big 5 list consists of things to do for free when visiting San Francisco.

1) Golden Gate Bridge. This is a favorite among tourists for many reasons. One of those reasons is the fact that it is one landmark that belongs only to San Francisco. It is uniquely a part of this city and represents, for many, your entire trip. Another reason is that there are so many ways to get there. I recommend walking and if you’re up for it, try one of the guided walking tours-this will provide valuable background information about the bridge as well as insuring that you don’t get lost on the way.
2) Golden Gate Park. This park is larger than New York’s Central Park and in my opinion equally grand. There is so much to do and see in Golden Gate Park that you could spend a good portion of your vacation here alone.
3) Cable Car Museum. Kids of all ages will find this museum interesting, especially big and little boys. This museum definitely offers a great deal of education and excitement for the family. In addition to learning about these neat cable cars which have become a trademark of San Francisco transportation. This is one museum I would pay to go to, the fact that it is free is a bonus that I can’t resist and the primary reason it is on this particular top ten list.
4) Walking Tours of San Francisco. These free walking tours are not only entertaining; they are also very informative as well. Learn about the history of the neighborhoods that this city is famous for as well as the great people who rebuilt a grand city, literally from the ashes of what it once was and made it even better. San Francisco has a wonderful story to tell and these guides narrate it wonderfully.
5) San Francisco Fire Department Museum. For the big kid in all of us that wanted to grow up to be a fire fighter, this museum takes the cake. Not only does it provide great historical references and artifacts but it is also really cool! I can think of no greater compliment to give a museum than that. This one, even your children will enjoy and beg to go back again and again.

Whether you are a big kid, a little kid, or just a kid at heart these activities are a great and inexpensive way to pass a day or two while on vacation. If you can’t stand the thought of saving money or not spending it, I’m sure each of these places will be glad to accept donations or at the very least sell you something at the gift shop (if the place you are visiting has one). Regardless, I hope my suggestions have gotten your mental wheels turning and you are coming up with your own great ways to enjoy the day without spending a lot of green.
